Lake Tahoe, NV (SportsNetwork.com) - Former LPGA great Annika Sorenstam will take on the men once again this summer, accepting an invitation to the American Century Championship of, 11 years after her memorable effort against the best players in the world at the PGA Tour's Colonial Open.

The legendary women's golf superstar will tee it up on even terms with the accomplished pro athlete golfers in the nationally televised, 54-hole, $600,000 competition at Edgewood Tahoe Golf Course. The tournament is scheduled for July 18-20, the same weekend as the British Open.

Sorenstam, 43, won 89 international tournament titles and earned over $22 million in prize money. She will play from the championship tees in the modified Stableford competition.

Among her top competition will be eight-time winner Rick Rhoden as well as NFL quarterbacks Billy Joe Tolliver and Mark Rypien, both former champions.

"Once you get inside the ropes, I am competitive and I'm sure that's not going to go away," Sorenstam said. "I like the (Stableford) format. I'm playing from the same tees as the men. Nowadays, I don't play stroke play, necessarily. So this will be a little different and I'm looking forward to it."
