Those walks — six coming from starter Alan Williams – included five to the bottom half of the Gary batting order.

No. 9 hitter Cody Bishop made the Wingnuts pay in the sixth inning. After a walk and an error by Wingnuts second baseman Jake Kahaulelio, Bishop tripled to score two runs for a 3-1 lead. Gary scored two more runs in the inning, then added two more in the seventh to pull away.

Williams got the loss, giving up six hits and five runs (three earned) in 5 1/2 innings. He struck out one.

Matthew Robertson pitched 1 2/3 innings of relief, giving up two unearned runs and two hits.

Gary starter Morgan Coombs went 6 2/3 innings, giving up seven hits and one run. He walked one and struck out five.

Wingnuts center fielder Carlo Testa was 2 for 4 to raise his average to .308.

Wichita plays at Gary this afternoon before returning to Lawrence-Dumont Stadium for a seven-game homestand beginning Monday against Laredo.
