Wichitan Don Sherman has been appointed to serve on the Sunflower Foundation board by Kansas Attorney General Derek Schmidt.

Sherman is vice president of community relations and strategic partnerships for Westar Energy.

The Topeka-based Sunflower Foundation, which was established in 2000, provides grants to health organizations and health-related educational information.

It came as a settlement between Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas and the state’s attorney general office and insurance commissioner.

Sherman will serve a three-year term on the nine-member board.
