A pedestrian is in critical condition after apparently being struck by a vehicle late Thursday in downtown Wichita, authorities said.

A man in his 50s was struck at 11:05 p.m. at the intersection of Douglas and Broadway, a Sedgwick County dispatcher said. The man was taken to Via Christi Hospital St. Francis for treatment.

Wichita police cars blocked traffic access to the intersection at Douglas and Broadway from all directions in the hour following the apparent collision. Heavy rain was falling at the time the pedestrian was struck, though authorities hadn’t said by midnight Friday whether conditions played a role in the crash.
