Botanica will break ground Wednesday on the Chinese Garden of Friendship being built outside its new event center. The ceremony will be at 1 p.m., followed by a reception in the event center featuring entertainment, fortune cookies and tea. It is free and open to the public.

Before the ceremony, at 12:15 p.m., Botanica director Marty Miller will give a lunchtime lecture about the new garden. The lecture is included in Botanica admission.

The primary donor for the Chinese garden has been announced as Jayne Milburn, for whom Botanica’s aquatic collection is named. Money is still being raised for the Chinese garden’s artwork. The garden is expected to open next spring.
