Wednesday’s games

Missouri State 9, Indiana State 1 — MSU’s Cody Schumacher held the second-seeded Sycamores to three hits over eight innings in an elimination game. Indiana State became the first host school to go 0-2 since Missouri State in 2007. The sixth-seeded Bears went up 4-0 in the third inning, sparked by Joey Hawkins’ two-RBI single. Indiana State shortstop Tyler Wampler, the MVC’s Defensive Player of the Year, started the inning with a fielding error.

Illinois State 6, Southern Illinois 1 — The fifth-seeded Redbirds took control of their side of the bracket with starter Dylan Craig holding the eighth-seeded Salukis to three hits in eight innings. A weather delay cost Craig a chance to finish the game. Redbirds second baseman Paul DeJong went 3 for 4 with a home run and a double to drive in two runs and score two.

Weather delay: Dallas Baptist 6, Bradley 4 (7) — Play will resume at 11:30 a.m. Thursday with one out in the bottom of the seventh inning. The loser will play Missouri State 40 minutes after completion of the suspended game.

The winner of Wichita State-Southern Illinois (8 a.m.) will play at Illinois State at 4:30 p.m., about an hour later than originally scheduled. That will be the final game of the day because Thursday’s 6:30 p.m. game (out of the other side of the bracket) will move to 11:30 a.m. Friday. Friday’s if necessary games will be played at 3 p.m. and 6:30 p.m.
