Joe Johnson, senior vice president at Schaefer Johnson Cox Frey Architecture, has been elected chairman of the board for the Wichita Independent Business Association.

Johnson was elected at WIBA’s May board meeting, according to a news release from the group.

He succeeds Wayne Roberts, who had served as chairman during the first four months of the year and has retired to Bozeman, Mont., according to the release. Johnson had been serving as the first vice chairman.

“I am honored to chair an organization that takes very seriously our role as a major voice for independent businesses in our community,” Johnson said in a statement. “We will continue to work with, and advocate for, small businesses to help them grow and thrive.”
