DIY gift: sewing kit

Make a simple sewing kit in 10 minutes with a Mason jar for kids going off to college or a first job.

• Use a canning jar with the lid in two pieces. Make the pin cushion on the top of the lid by gluing on a larger ball of fiber fill than you think you’ll need.

• Cover the fiber fill with a piece of colorful fabric, pushing the padded insert into the lid band, and trim the excess fabric.

• Fill the canning jar with small scissors, thread, a few needles, buttons, safety pins and other quick fixes such as hem tape.
