Wichita police apprehended a 59-year-old man suspected of robbing the Credit Union of America branch on Ridge and Maple within minutes after the heist.

Police Sgt. Steve Yarberry said a man walked into the branch around 3:20 p.m. Thursday and handed a note demanding cash to a teller. Two employees handed over an undisclosed amount of money, which was placed in a bag, Yarberry said; the man then fled in a PT Cruiser.

Yarberry said officers spotted the vehicle near Central and West a short time later then stopped it in the 3700 block of West Central. The man “was taken into custody without incident,” he said. He was questioned by Wichita police and the FBI on Thursday afternoon on the sixth floor of City Hall. Yarberry said Thursday afternoon the man would likely be booked into Sedgwick County jail by evening.

Yarberry said the robber did not show a weapon during the heist. No one was hurt.
