Cowley softball wins national tournament opener

Sophomore center fielder Jordan Haya had a double, home run and four RBIs Thursday to help Cowley College win its NJCAA Division II softball tournament opener in Clinton, Miss. Cowley won 8-3 over Black Hawk-Moline and advanced to a 3:30 p.m. Thursday game against third-seed Illinois Central.

Haya had a two-run double in Cowley's three-run first inning, then added a two-run homer in the second inning to lead the Tigers (42-12).

Sophomore pitcher Jessica Seay gave up an unearned run in the first inning but settled down to give up three runs and five hits over seven innings.

Cowley freshman Taya Haney led off the third inning with a solo home run.
