After 55 years of practice in Wichita, dentist Ronald Davis retired last week.

“We really appreciated the loyalty our patients showed us,” Davis said. “Some of the patients we’ve seen are the children or grandchildren of some of our original patients. ... It’s kind of what gets you up in the morning. I’ve enjoyed working and getting to know these people.”

Davis practiced at 5805 E. Central for the past 20 years. Prior to that, his office was located at 1440 N. Oliver.

During his career, Davis was the editor of the Kansas State Dental Journal. He also served as chairman of the board for Delta Dental and as president of the American College of Dentists’ regional chapter. For more than 40 years, Davis was the team dentist for Wichita State athletics.

He went to dental school at the University of Missouri and completed his undergraduate degree at Wichita State.

He practiced with his son Mark, who was also a dentist, for 29 years until Mark’s death last year of cancer at age 55.

Over the years, Davis’ wife, Corinne, helped at the office as an assistant, office manager and accountant.

Last September, Davis sold his practice to dentists Ty and Terra Reusser, but he stayed on until this month to help with the transition.

During retirement, he plans to make stained glass, read, do woodworking and spend more time with his grandchildren. He also wants to travel and spend time at the family lake house and farm.
