McCurdy Auction plans to leave its location of 22 years for a new building – a move that will allow QuikTrip to build a newer, bigger store at Central and Oliver.

The family owned auction firm announced Thursday its plans to build a 10,000-square-foot building at the southeast corner of 13th and K-96 in northeast Wichita.

Managing broker Braden McCurdy said the 32-year-old real estate auction firm has outgrown its office at 519 N. Oliver, and has sold the former Town and Country convenience store building and lot to QuikTrip.

“Our business is growing, and we simply need more room to service our customers,” he said.

Jeff Krehbiel Architecture is designing the building, and Accel Construction is the general contractor.

McCurdy said construction will begin as soon as the building plans are approved by the city.

The firm does more than 450 auctions a year in Kansas and Oklahoma.

A QuikTrip official on Thursday confirmed that the Tulsa-based convenience store chain purchased the McCurdy building on North Oliver.

QuikTrip spokesman Mike Thornbrugh said his company purchased the building so it can build a new Gen 3 store to replace its smaller and older store that sits on the northwest corner of Central and Oliver.

He said QuikTrip is in the permitting process for the project.

“All things being equal … we would like to begin construction in August or September,” Thornbrugh said.

He said the Gen 3 store will be constructed while the original store remains open.
