A man armed with a rifle and wearing a clown mask was one of two men who robbed the Happy Smoke Shop in south Wichita on Monday, police said.

The armed man wearing a clown mask walked into the store at 2855 S. Hydraulic, south of Pawnee, at about 5:45 p.m. and demanded money from the register, Lt. Dan East said. The clerk backed away from the register and the robbers took an undisclosed amount of cash and left.

They drove off in a maroon four-door Dodge Stratus or Intrepid that has front-end damage by the headlight on the passenger side, East said.

The clerk told police both suspects are black men. The one wearing a clown mask is between 5-feet-10 and 6 feet tall. He weighs about 170 pounds and wore a dark-colored hooded sweatshirt and gloves.

The second suspect is about 5-feet-8 and 150 pounds, the clerk told police. He wore a dark baseball cap and a dark bandanna over his face. He also wore light-colored gloves.

Anyone with information linked to the robbery is asked to call detectives at 316-268-4177 or Crime Stoppers at 316-267-2111. Tips can also be submitted online at www.WichitaCrimeStoppers.com or via mobile phone by texting TIP217 then the message to CRIMES (274637).
