For years the city of Wichita worshipped low taxes for a strong economy. Jobs have gone and we have deteriorating streets, a limited water supply and even a library system that has fallen behind. Who is stunned that it is time to pay the piper?
So Wichita City Council members got sticker shock when they heard it would cost $3 billion for all the projects they want to do. Now they must do what the rest of us do daily: Decide which are wants and which are needs. Water should be a priority.
It appears the local Democrats are trying to spend our way into oblivion. They are just like the big boys in D.C., only on a smaller scale.
The city wants $4.9 million for the Dunbar Theater. What about the Orpheum Theatre?
With the cost of $3 billion to do important projects in Wichita, many will not get done or will be postponed for years. But Southwest Airlines will still get its welfare check to fly here each year. You can bank on that.
Why doesnt the city of Wichita combine with Sedgwick County on snow removal, at least for the main streets? Last winter the snow removal in the county was a lot better than in Wichita, and people who live in the city pay county taxes.
We keep hearing about the Judge Riddel Boys Ranch and how its closing. Where is the girls ranch? What about the girls?

I just ran across a receipt for gas when President Bush was president. Gas was $1.35 a gallon, and I filled my car on less than $20. I miss those evil oilmen gouging us.
When Republicans took over Washington during the Bush administration, they instituted pay to play by refusing to deal with any lobbyists who were not fellow Republicans and forcing companies to hire Republican cronies for exorbitant sums. Is it really any surprise if Gov. Sam Brownback brought this system to Topeka?
I didnt like Brownback that much at the beginning, but with The Eagles continuous leftist onslaught of him Ive decided he looks better each day.
I was 55 when I lost my mother about four years ago. It doesnt matter how old you are lose a parent and you are reduced to a 5-year-old. I think about her and miss her every day.
My mom is gone now, but we will never forget when she said, You know that really bad man, Osmosesbenslaben? Terrible man. We miss her so much. Love ya, Mom.
Ive always wondered what possible part all the kings horses could have played in the failed effort to put Humpty Dumpty back together again.
