Kaymer hangs on to win the Players

Ponte Vedra Beach, FL (SportsNetwork.com) - Martin Kaymer made three tough pars down the stretch on Sunday to hang on and win the Players Championship by one stroke.

Kaymer, whose other PGA Tour win was at the 2010 PGA Championship, finished with a 1-under 71 to end at 13-under-par 275.

Jim Furyk fired a 6-under 66 to gain second place at minus-12. Furyk was the runner-up for the second straight week, and he collected his third top-5 finish in the last nine years at the Players.

Sergio Garcia, the 2008 champion, closed with a 2-under 70 to grab third place at 11-under-par 277 on the Stadium Course at TPC Sawgrass.

Reigning U.S. Open champion Justin Rose carded a 3-under 69 to gain a share of fourth place at minus-10. He ended alongside third-round co-leader Jordan Spieth, who struggled to a 2-over 74 in the final round.

Jimmy Walker, a three-time winner this season, matched the low round of the day with his 7-under 65. Walker was joined in sixth place at minus-9 by David Hearn (70), Lee Westwood (70), Francesco Molinari (70) and Rory McIlroy (66).
