A man in his 50s was robbed and beaten with a crutch while he was on an early morning walk, police said

The incident occurred at about 5 a.m. Friday in the 3500 block of East Roseberry, Capt. Brent Allred said. The 52-year-old victim told police an unknown black man who is 31 or 32 approached him, hit him four times with a metal crutch and demanded money.

The suspect was given an undisclosed amount of money and left the area near Pawnee and George Washington on foot. The victim said his attacker is about 5-foot-11 and 200 pounds. He wore a black shirt and blue jeans.

The victim was taken to Via Christi Hospital St. Joseph for treatment of his injuries, Allred said.
