William Rexroad, 81, has been identified as the Hutchinson man killed Monday night in a car accident in his hometown.

Rexroad was taken by air to Via Christi St. Francis Hospital where he later died, Hutchinson Police Sgt. Brian Hirt said.

He was driving a 2013 Toyota Highlander west on 43rd Street in Hutchinson shortly before 8:30 p.m. when the vehicle went off the road just west of Quivira Drive, Hirt said. The car struck a culvert and telephone pole.

The cause of the accident is still under investigation, although alcohol was not a factor, Hirt said. Rexroad was wearing his seat belt.
