A 30-year-old man arrested last week in connection with a string of residential burglaries in southern Sedgwick County was charged Friday with multiple counts of theft, one count of burglary and possessing methamphetamine.
Brandon J. Metcalf of Wichita is being held in Sedgwick County Jail in lieu of $50,000 bond in the crimes and on $100,000 for a probation violation. The charges document filed in the case accuses him of stealing three vehicles, jewelry, a watch, a checkbook, a bank card and electronics at multiple locations in February and April and of burglarizing a car in February.
He was found in possession of meth on April 22, the document alleges.
All of the offenses except for one theft count are felonies.
Metcalf is due back in court for a preliminary hearing May 8. He was jailed Tuesday after he crashed a stolen truck while fleeing from a Derby business where he is suspected of shoplifting, the Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office said last week.
Records show Metcalf has previous convictions in Sedgwick County for theft, criminal damage to property and fleeing or attempting to elude law enforcement.
