Use database to see factors in injuries, deaths in U.S.

  • Published Sunday, April 27, 2014, at 12:10 p.m.

Each Monday, The Eagle highlights a government record that is available to the public. Open records help people keep government in check and help them better understand how government affects their lives.

For a complete list of You Oughta Know columns, go to www.kansas.com/oughta/.

The record: WISQARS, an interactive database system from the National Center for Health Statistics about fatal and nonfatal injuries and violent deaths in the United States.

Why you’d want it: To learn more about factors affecting injuries and deaths. The database can create customized reports.

Where you get it: Go to www.cdc.gov/injury/wisqars/index.html.

How much it will cost: The information is free.
