Two children were taken to a local hospital for treatment of serious injuries after they were bitten by a pit bull Thursday night, authorities said.

The girls, ages 13 and 3, were bitten shortly before 7 p.m. in the 4400 block of East Bayley, a Sedgwick County dispatch supervisor said. That’s southwest of Lincoln and Oliver.

Both girls suffered penetrating wounds to their arms, the supervisor said. The wounds were initially considered minor, but were later reclassified as serious.

They were both taken to Wesley Medical Center for treatment.
