Prosecutors on Tuesday charged a 25-year-old Wichita man with sexually molesting a toddler last spring.

Harlan L. Scott is facing one count of aggravated indecent liberties with a child. A criminal complaint filed in Sedgwick County District Court accuses Scott of engaging in “lewd fondling or touching” of a 3-year-old sometime between Feb. 1 and May 2, 2013.

The charge is a Jessica’s Law crime, which means Scott could be sentenced to life in prison without parole eligibility for 25 years if he is convicted of the crime.

Scott made his first appearance in court Tuesday afternoon via video link from the Sedgwick County Jail, where he is being held on $150,000 bond. He is scheduled for a preliminary hearing May 6.

Kansas Department of Corrections records show Scott was on parole after serving prison time on a aggravated battery charge when the sex crime allegedly occurred. He was booked into jail Monday.
