To celebrate National Park Week, the Tallgrass Prairie Preserve is inviting people to a daylong event called “Let’s Experience the Great Outdoors.”

Activities begin at 8 a.m. Saturday with a volunteer service project to help spruce up the facilities at the national park. Other events include educational activities and skills demonstrations until 4 p.m.

At 9 p.m., a night hike has been scheduled to allow people to star gaze and hear the night sounds of the prairie.

Visitors are asked to wear clothing that is comfortable and that won’t be ruined if it gets dirty.

All activities are free and open to the public. For more information or to make reservations to attend the events, call 620-273-6034, ext. 222 Monday through Friday during normal business hours or go to www.nps.gov/tapr/index.htm.

The preserve is two miles north of Strong City on K-177.
