It’ll be a sunny day in the Wichita area today, forecasters say, with highs in the mid-70s and winds behaving for once.

They’ll be light and variable, making for a pleasant spring day in Kansas. But don’t get used to it.

After overnight lows in the mid-50s under partly cloudy skies, Wednesday will be much more feisty.

Highs could touch 80 under mostly sunny skies, forecasters say, with south winds intensifying significantly. Teens early in the day will make way for steady winds topping 30 miles an hour by afternoon and gusts topping 40 miles an hour.

Those conditions will be setting the stage for a stormy evening – with large hail, damaging winds and perhaps even a tornado or two in the central third of Kansas, forecasters say.

Monitor later forecasts for updated conditions.
