A number of changes are underway at Davis-Moore Auto Group, including the sale of its Nissan dealership.

Davis-Moore said in a news release that it is selling the Nissan franchise to Steve and Brent McGavock, who own McGavock Nissan, which operates three dealerships in Abilene, Amarillo and Lubbock, Texas.

The Nissan sale “is just one in a series of moves designed to prioritize business interests and increase efficiencies,” Davis-Moore said in a news release on Monday.

“We just felt like it was a good opportunity to sell them the store because we’re 100 percent confident they’ll take care of the customers and the employees,” said Sean Tarbell, Davis-Moore vice president. “We want to be the best dealer, not the biggest dealer, and we think this will help us do it.”

The sale of the store, financial terms of which were not disclosed, is expected to close next month. A McGavock official said the plan is to keep the Nissan store at its current location, 10625 E. Kellogg.

“The McGavocks have been looking at several different locations in Texas and other states,” said Randy Christian, McGavock Nissan’s director of marketing and advertising. Davis-Moore Nissan “seemed to be a really good cultural fit.”

Christian added that “we don’t see any significant changes” to Davis-Moore Nissan’s staffing, which totals about 60 employees.

Employees were told of the sale Monday morning, Tarbell said.

The other moves include plans to relocate the Davis-Moore Lincoln store from 5817 E. Kellogg, although the company did not identify its new location, as well as the pending move of its Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram store from 6205 E. Kellogg to a new building and lot its constructing near Kellogg and Rock, at the site of the former Scholfield Buick GMC store.

The company has hired Joe Moshiri as general manager for its Chrysler, Chevrolet and Fiat stores and Shawn Muth as general manager of the Lincoln store.

Tarbell said the Davis-Moore has historically had a general manager for its Chevrolet store, but not for Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram or Fiat of Wichita. He said Moshiri’s appointment and expanded role will help fill the operational gaps in the future once Davis-Moore president Dawson Grimsley retires from the company in two years.

Plans for a new Lincoln store site are still in the works. An announcement on its relocation from 5817 E. Kellogg should come soon, Tarbell said.
