Two small children were placed in protective custody Thursday afternoon after they were found wandering by themselves outside a residence near 31st Street South and Hillside.

An officer saw the two boys – ages 3 and 4 – shortly after 4 p.m. in the 3200 block of South Clifton, according to a police report. The older boy was naked from the waist down, the report said.

No adults were at the residence at the time, but a 30-year-old woman arrived later, Lt. Dan East said. Preliminary reports don’t indicate what the woman’s relationship was to the children.

After being checked out at Wesley Medical Center, the boys were taken by police to the Wichita Children’s Home, the report said.
