A Kansas Air National Guardsman from Goddard has waived his detention hearing that was set for Friday on a federal sex charge in Texas.
Paul Francis Grimm, 42, a senior master sergeant who works full time at McConnell Air Force Base, waived the hearing Wednesday, according to federal court documents made available Thursday.
He is charged with having sex with a girl under 18 and taking her across state lines. The girl was a family acquaintance who lives in Ohio, where Grimm also lived before moving to Kansas.
Grimm was arrested March 29 in Galveston, Texas, after he and a girl under the age of 18 got off a cruise ship.
U.S. Customs found naked pictures of the girl on Grimm’s cellphone. The girl told FBI agents she had sex with Grimm.
Charges were filed March 31. The federal government has 30 days from that date to have the case indicted, a spokeswoman for the U.S. Attorney in the Southern District of Texas said.
Grimm remains in the Galveston County Jail, according to jail records.
