Amanda Griffin

Health services director, Wichita Presbyterian Manor

Griffin was practically raised in a nursing home.

“My mom worked in a nursing home when I was a little girl,” she said. “I just thought I really had a ton of grandmas and grandpas.”

Griffin grew up in the Oklahoma panhandle and earned her certification as a nurse’s aide when she was 16. She later studied at Wichita Area Technical College and Hesston College to become a registered nurse.

Most recently, she’s worked at the Asbury Park retirement community in Newton. She moved to Presbyterian Manor to be closer to her Andover home. Griffin said her job is to manage about 45 staff members and make sure the correct policies and procedures are followed.

She still draws on her mother’s example.

“My mother was very much a patient advocate and taught me so much about the elderly and how to work with them. It’s just a way of life, really.”

Griffin and her husband, Travis, have three children: Gracen, 11, Jon, 14, and Monte, 18.
