Bullet fired into air lands in kitchen near Pawnee, I-235

A family getting ready for bed heard a strange noise in the kitchen early Sunday morning and discovered it was a bullet, police said.

They heard no gunfire near their house in the 2200 block of South Anna at about 1 a.m. Sunday, Lt. Joe Schroeder said. The 9mm bullet apparently was fired into the air elsewhere and came down through the roof and into the kitchen of the house just northeast of Pawnee and I-235.

Schroeder said the incident serves as a reminder that firing weapons within the city limits is illegal, even if someone is simply shooting into the air.

“A bullet fired into the air could come through the ceiling of a house and hit somebody,” he said.
