A man was seriously injured in an industrial accident early Friday morning in southwest Wichita, authorities said.

The 45-year-old man was struck in the head by a blade that popped loose at about 4 a.m. in the 2600 block of West May, a Sedgwick County dispatch supervisor said. That’s just west of Meridian between Harry and Pawnee.

The man was taken to Via Christi Hospital St. Francis in critical condition with a “penetrating trauma wound,” the supervisor said, but he was alert and conscious.
