Commercial relationship manager, Intrust Bank, El Dorado branch Featured business person: Ryan Liess

Born and raised in Goodland, Liess discovered shortly after college that he’d probably have to move to Wichita to work in commercial lending.

“The president of the local bank said if you really want to do commercial lending, find a credit analyst position (first). Really the only place in the state that has those types of positions was in Wichita.”

It worked out well for another reason: Liess’ fiancee and future wife was doing her student teaching here.

Liess, 38, earned a bachelor’s degree from Fort Hays State University, and he ran on the school’s track and cross country teams. He worked for Commerce Bank and Bankers Bank in Wichita before landing a job with Intrust 12 years ago.

At Intrust, he worked as a credit analyst and a loan review analyst before becoming a commercial lender in the bank’s El Dorado branch. He was promoted to commercial relationship manager with broader responsibilities last month.

“Growing up, my dad worked at a bank, and he was a loan officer, and for whatever reason, that’s what I saw myself doing. Working with businesses and watching them grow and fostering that growth is something I’m very interested in.”

Liess and his wife, Heather, have a son, Evan, 9, and a daughter, Brynn, 6.

“With kids that age we’re busy every day with soccer and different activities,” he said.
