Wild suffers first loss

The Wild suffered its first loss of the season, losing to the Bandits 48-45 on Saturday night in Sioux City, Iowa.

The game got away from Wichita in the first five minutes of the third quarter when Sioux City scored 16 consecutive points with a two touchdowns sandwiched around a safety. The scoring burst put the Bandits ahead 45-24.

The Wild responded with 21 consecutive points as Rocky Hinds ran for one touchdhown and passed to Jarrel Kelly for two more, tying the score 45-45 with 13:51 left in the game.

Wichita’s defense stopped Sioux City on its next possession and moved the ball inside the Bandits’ 20-yard line, but Ernesto Lacayo missed a 34-yard field goal with 7:16 left that would have given the Wild the lead.

The Bandits took the lead on Braden Wieking’s 19-yard field goal with 2:36 left.

Wichita took the ball inside the Bandits’ 20 again, but weren’t able to put the ball in the end zone and were forced to attempt a 36-yard field goal with 44 seconds left, but Lacayo missed again.
