Officials from AT&T said Wednesday that they plan to hire more workers in Kansas.

AT&T is seeking to fill 60 jobs in the state, about 40 of which are in retail stores, including in Wichita, the company’s Kansas spokesman said.

He said about half of the 60 jobs are new positions and the other half are open positions.

“These are in addition to what we announced in December,” AT&T Kansas spokesman Chris Lester said.

In December the company said it was looking to hire about 70 people in Wichita for positions in its customer care, U-verse service and retail stores.

Wednesday’s Kansas announcement was part of a broader, national announcement by the Dallas-based telecommunications giant, which said it planned to hire more than 3,000 retail sales and sales management employees across the country over the next several months. AT&T said in a news release that the new employees are needed to meet increased demand in its retail business.
