A 60-year-old Wichita man is facing charges of possession of child pornography.

Richard E. Pickett made his first appearance in Sedgwick County District Court on Friday afternoon. He is charged with one count of sexual exploitation of a child. Court records allege that Pickett possessed a sexually explicit depiction of a minor. Wichita police learned of the offense, according to an agency incident report connected to the court case, after receiving notice that a Google account associated with a convicted sex offender was used to upload child pornography in August 2013.

Pickett, a registered sex offender, was arrested Thursday in the 2500 block of North Jackson, according to a jail booking report. That’s near 25th and Arkansas.

He remained in custody Friday on $50,000 bond and is due in court for a preliminary hearing on April 10.

The charge is not Pickett’s first involving child sex crimes. Court records show that he pleaded guilty to one count of sexual exploitation of a child in a 2001 Sedgwick County case and was sentenced to 34 months in prison. He originally was charged with five counts of sexual exploitation of a child in the case, records show, but four were dropped as part of a plea deal with prosecutors.
