Kansas City firefighters responding to a fire call about 11:30 a.m. Thursday discovered a 5-year-old child home alone in the residence.

A small fire damaged the second floor of the residence in the 2000 block of Park Tower Drive, Battallion Chief James Garrett said. The child was not injured.

The mother soon returned home. Police arrested her on suspicion of child endangerment. They contacted the Missouri Children’s Division to take care of the child.
