Kansas parks featured in nature book award finalist

The Konza Prairie Preserve near Manhattan and the Rocktown Natural Area near Wilson are both featured in a book that has been selected as a finalist for the Nature Book of the Year.

The book is “Go Outside and Come Back Better” by Ron Lizzi. The winning book will be selected by a panel of 100 librarians and booksellers on June 27 at the American Library Association Annual Conference in Las Vegas.

Lizzi’s book features 160 photos from 120 parks throughout the nation.

The Konza Prairie near Manhattan is an internationally recognized research site for tallgrass prairie ecology and has trails for public hiking through the Flint Hills.

The Rocktown Natural Area near Wilson Lake is a 305-acre park that features 15- to 30-foot sandstone pillars.
