Bunny club, candy-makers say ‘Make Mine Chocolate’

Bunny TNT, a local club for people who own and love rabbits, has joined with Cero’s Candies and Cocoa Dolce Artisan Chocolates to help get out the message that live bunnies do not make good Easter presents.

The Wichita stores are offering chocolate bunnies as an alternative, and proceeds from the sales will go to help with Bunny TNT’s rabbit rescue and educational efforts.

Cero’s, at 3429 E. Douglas, will sell chocolate bunnies for $2.50, and Cocoa Dolce, at 2132 N. Rock Road, Suite 100, will offer fancy bunny candy in milk chocolate or dark chocolate for $3.50. These items will be available from April 1 to April 20.

Bunny TNT wants to educate the public about rabbits so people will think twice before buying a live bunny for Easter. Rabbits are not low-maintenance animals but are highly social creatures. They require regular interaction with their human family, although they dislike being picked up and rough play can cause them to bite and scratch. Rabbits need an appropriate hay-based diet and veterinary care provided by a bunny-savvy veterinarian. They must be spayed or neutered for behavioral and health reasons. Properly cared for, a rabbit can live more than 10 years.
