Body found on North Oliver

Lt. Dave Mattingly of the Sedgwick County Sheriff's Office talks about the investigation at the scene where a body was found on Oliver north of 77th Street near Kechi Monday morning.

Sedgwick County law enforcement authorities filed charges Tuesday in the case of a 23-year-old man found shot to death last September near Kechi.

Second-degree murder charges were filed against Antonio T. Bell, 22.

Deandre Freeman Jr.’s body was found Sept. 30 at 7:30 a.m. in a ditch along the 8000 block of North Oliver. He had been shot once in the head.

Bell has been in custody since the slaying because of a probation violation, according to Capt. Greg Pollock with the Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Department.

Bell’s probation violation was based on an original charge of gambling, Pollock said. At the time of his arrest in September, he was on parole for aggravated escape charges.

Both men were documented gang members, Pollock said, and they knew each other.

A preliminary hearing has been scheduled April 8.
