Online search lets you find impounded vehicles

  • Published Sunday, March 23, 2014, at 12:28 p.m.

Each Monday, The Eagle highlights a government record that is available to the public. Open records help people keep government in check and help them better understand how government affects their lives.

For a complete list of You Oughta Know columns, go to www.kansas.com/oughta/.

The record: A searchable database of vehicles impounded by the city of Wichita.

Why you’d want it: If your vehicle has been impounded, you can use the Wichita Police Department’s “Find My Car” tool to locate where it is. You’ll need to enter your vehicle identification number or the license plate number and state of registration.

Where you get it: Go to online.wichita.gov/findmycar.

How much the record will cost: The information is free.
