Police said a person tried using a cutting torch to get to the cash of a coin machine at a west Wichita car wash, but failed.

Wichita police Sgt. Ron Hunt said Saturday despite the failed attempt, the suspect “caused complete damage” to the coin machine at the car wash at 600 N. Maize.

He said the incident was reported to police at about 6:30 a.m.

Hunt said a red, late-model SUV with a sunroof was spotted leaving the scene.
