Police are looking for a man and woman who they say stole an acquaintance’s television Tuesday night and beat him with his cane when he tried to stop them.

The incident unfolded at about 9 p.m. Tuesday in the 2000 block of South Pattie, Lt. Dan East said. That’s near Mount Vernon in southeast Wichita.

A 56-year-old man told police a 40-year-old man and 34-year-old woman came to his house and demanded payment for his television, East said. When he refused to give them money and demanded that they leave, the male visitor grabbed a cane the resident was holding and beat him on the head and body with it.

They then took the television and left. The victim was taken to Via Christi Hospital St. Joseph for treatment of cuts, bruises and swelling, East said.

Police are looking for the two suspects, who are known to the victim.
