Second team

F — Cleanthony Early, Wichita State

F — Melvin Ejim, Iowa State

F — C.J. Fair, Syracuse

G — Sean Kilpatrick, Cincinnati

G —Andrew Wiggins, Kansas

Wichita State senior Cleanthony Early earned his first All-American honor on Wednesday.

Early, a 6-foot-8 forward, was named to the All-America second team by the U.S. Basketball Writers Association. He averages 15.8 points and 5.9 rebounds for the 34-0 Shockers. He is also an All-Missouri Valley Conference selection and is a candidate for the Wooden Award.

Kansas freshman Andrew Wiggins was also named to the second team.

Early, guard Ron Baker and guard Fred VanVleet were named to the National Association of Basketball Coaches All-District 16 team, joined by Indiana State’s Jake Odum and Northern Iowa’s Seth Tuttle. Southern Illinois’ Desmar Jackson and Anthony Beane, Bradley’s Walt Lemon Jr., Jarmar Gulley of Missouri State and Evansville’s D.J. Balentine made the second team.
