Wichita police said Sunday they are investigating a shooting at 10th and Cleveland that has left a 23-year-old woman dead.

The shooting was reported at about 3:10 a.m. Sunday, police said.

Officers responded to the scene after residents called to report shots had been fired, according to Sgt. John Hoofer, spokesman for the Wichita Police Department.

When police arrived, they found the woman lying outside a club with a gunshot to her head, Hoofer said. There were a large number of people gathered inside the club and outside, he said.

The woman was taken to a local hospital and later pronounced dead.

Hoofer said no more details are expected to be released until Monday. However, police are hoping people who may know anything about the shooting will contact them.

“We still need as many leads as we can get,” Hoofer said.

The number for Wichita Crime Stoppers is 316-267-2111.
