Police are seeking help from the public in finding more than $40,000 worth of stolen tools and equipment taken from a construction site in southwest Wichita.

The theft was discovered at about 3:15 a.m. Tuesday at 402 S. Julia, Capt. Doug Nolte said. That’s just west of I-235 and south of Maple.

Thieves took three generators, electrical ground straps that were from 6 to 12 feet long, safety equipment and hand tools, Nolte said. They also damaged two vehicles to gain access to the stolen items.

The property stolen belongs to Par Electric of Kansas City and three individuals, Nolte said. The loss is estimated at more than $40,000.

“Obviously, this is a major loss for Par Electric,” Nolte said.

Given what and how much was taken, he said, it’s likely there were multiple thieves and they were there for an extended period of time. Anyone who saw any suspicious activity overnight in that area is encouraged to call 911 or Crime Stoppers at 316-267-2111.
