WICHITA — What began as a dream is now ending in an auction.

The building that Dave Scheideman had been building at 909 N. West St. to be the new home of his Dave's Pool Store is going to be auctioned along with the contents of the store, which is still in its longtime home at 915 N. West St.

Scheideman shared his plans for a new store with Have You Heard? on Sept. 18. Four days later, he died in a motorcycle accident.

Then in October, Scheideman's son, Brian, said he was working to keep the business running and planned to move into the new store by early winter, which is what his father originally planned.

"He was in the process of building the building," Brian Scheideman says. "It was his lifelong dream to get it and move his store in there."

He says there's now a court-ordered decision that's forcing the auction.

"He died, and all those papers were signed with the death clauses in them as far as ... all the bank stuff," Scheideman says.

"It's come down to basically it has to be sold," he says. "It's just how the chips have fallen, and you know, it's unfortunate, but it's just one of those things."

Scheideman won't discuss the details behind the order.

Chuck Korte Real Estate & Auction Service will handle the March 19 auction, which will be held at what was to be the new store.
