Three new aviation-related businesses have opened at the Salina Regional Airport since the first of the year, the airport reports.

They include Avflight Salina, TDM Aero Tek and Sojka Aviation.

Avflight Salina is a fixed base operator, which offers flight and pilot services, aviation fuel, catering, on-site car rental, a conference room, snack bar, pilots lounge, crew car, baggage handling and maintenance.

TDM Aero is an aircraft maintenance and repair facility operated by Tait Middleton and his father, Dave Middleton.

Tait Middleton is a Kansas State University-Salina graduate. He specializes in periodic inspection, airframe and powerplant maintenance, reciprocating engine overhauls, aircraft detailing and antique aircraft repair.

Sojka Aviation is owned by Charlie Sojka and provides flight training and aircraft rentals.

The growth of aviation businesses at the Salina airport means better options for airplane owners and pilots, Salina Airport Authority executive director Tim Rogers said in a report.

In other airport news, a remodeled WWII hangar that began as a practice field for the Salina Bombers, a professional indoor football team, has grown into a full training and work-out facility.

“We are the largest public indoor field turf facility in the state,” Jake Sharp, president of The Indoor Hangar Complex, said in a statement.

The airport said it still has four facilities totaling 280,000 square feet of space available for lease.
