A man used the threat of bomb to steal an undisclosed amount of cash from an Independence bank just after 8 a.m. Monday, according to federal investigators.

The robbery occurred at the U.S. Bank branch in the 100 block of East U.S. 24. Authorities said a African-American man in his 40s, dressed in a black peacoat and black stocking cap, drove up to the bank’s drive through window. He said he had a bomb and handed over a note demanding money.

The robber fled after receiving an undisclosed amount of cash. He drove away in an unknown direction. The robber’s vehicle was described as four-door car either silver or gray in color.

No other details were immediately available.
