A man critically hurt in a two-vehicle crash on South Rock Road on Saturday afternoon has died at a Wichita hospital.

Sedgwick County sheriff’s Sgt. Jeff Ohmart said ice covering the street caused the 23-year-old man to lose control of the car he was driving and cross into oncoming traffic, where his car was struck by another car at about 5 p.m.

The man was taken to Wesley Medical Center “in very critical condition,” Ohmart said, but died a short time later. His identity was not released Saturday. Ohmart said the man lives in the Sedgwick County area.

Two people in the other car were also hospitalized, Ohmart said. One had serious injuries, he said.

The crash happened in the 4000 block of South Rock Road near McConnell Air Force Base. It was among traffic fatalities blamed on Saturday’s winter weather.
