The Wichita Wild rolled in its season opener, defeating the Lincoln Haymakers 62-10 on Friday night in Lincoln, Neb.
Former Butler Community College standout Tywon Hubbard led Wichita with two touchdowns and 81 yards rushing on 17 carries.
Wichita quarterback Rocky Hinds threw for 121 yards on 14-of-20 passing with three touchdowns.
It was the defense and special teams that started off the scoring for Wichita, with a 23-yard field goal by Ernesto Lacayo and a 15-yard interception return for a touchdown by former Oregon star Justin Phinisee for a 10-0 lead at the end of the first quarter.
The Wild led 20-3 at halftime and pushed the lead to 55-3 before Lincoln scored its first touchdown.
Wichita defensive lineman Matt Moss had an unusual stat line with two touchdowns on fumble recoveries, with both coming in the fourth quarter.
Joe Kassanavoid, who played for Kansas State, caught two touchdown passes and finished with 56 receiving yards to lead Wichita.
The Wild, defending CPIFL champions, doesn’t play again until March 16 against the Oklahoma Defenders in Tulsa. The Wild’s first home game at Hartman Arena isn’t until March 22, when it hosts the Dodge City Law.
