WSU women struggle on offense, lose at Evansville

The Wichita State women’s basketball team continued to struggle on offense, losing 63-54 at Evansville on Thursday night for its third loss in four games.

The Shockers shot 32.3 percent (20 of 62) and committed 18 turnovers. WSU never led. Evansville scored the game’s first eight points. WSU cut the deficit to 18-15 but couldn’t sustain any momentum and trailed 35-24 at halftime. Allie Decker scored 13 points in the half to keep WSU in the game.

Wichita State got within 42-36 with 16:15 left in the game, but the Aces respnded with seven straight points. The Shockers got within six points one more time, 57-51, but never got any closer.

Decker made four three-point shots and led WSU with 16 points. Three other Shockers scored 10.

WSU forced Evansville into 21 turnovers, but the Aces made 20 of 38 shots (52.6 percent) inclduing 5 of 12 three-pointers. Sarah Dickey scored 22 for Evansville.

WSU has lost two in a row, shooting 33 percent (38 for 115) in the losses.
