Butler County authorities are searching for a pair of Rose Hill teens missing since Thursday afternoon.

Michael Conroy II, 16, and Athenia Brinkley, 15, were last seen walking north-northeast out of Rose Hill along railroad tracks about 4:30 p.m., Butler County Sheriff Kelly Herzet said. They are believed to have run away and are thought to be traveling together.

Herzet said the teens had no readily available transportation, so they are thought to still be in or near Rose Hill. Their destination is unknown.

Michael is about 5 feet tall, weights 130 pounds and was wearing blue jeans and a brown, hooded leather jacket when he went missing. Athenia, who is about 5 feet tall and 115 pounds, was dressed in a black hooded sweatshirt with a white logo on the front. Both have brown hair.

Herzet said Michael has a medical condition that has law enforcement concerned for his welfare. The pair was reported missing by a family member.

Anyone who spots the teens or knows their whereabouts is asked to call Butler County Communications at 316-320-1294 or 911.

The Butler County Sheriff’s Office and Rose Hill police on Thursday conducted both ground and aerial searches for the teens in Rose Hill and in surrounding areas. Herzet said foul play is not suspected in their disappearance.

“We don’t know what led them to take off,” Herzet said.

He added: “It’s really not real cold out, but nightfall is upon us, and we need to find those kids.”
